Wildfire Resource Center Hub Launched

La Plata County has introduced the Wildfire Resource Center, an online platform providing comprehensive information on wildfire mitigation efforts, risk assessment, and preparation techniques for residential properties. The Southern Ute Indian Tribe's annual spring clean-up is scheduled for April 18th-19th, offering services for tribal members and tenants within the tribal boundaries to dispose of household items. The community is invited to join the Easter Egg Hunt on March 23rd at SunUte Park, featuring categories for various age groups, food from local vendors, and games with prizes alongside the egg hunt festivities. The annual spring cleanup for the Southern Ute Indian Tribe will be April 18th and 19th. Come join the fun this weekend with the Community Easter Egg Hunt. La Plata County has launched an online hub for county residents for wildfire related information. The Wildfire Resource Center is a centralized location for information about mitigation efforts in the county. Fire Protection Districts, funding opportunities for fire mitigation efforts, as well as learning fire mitigation techniques for residential properties. Launched by a citizen volunteer board, the Wildfire Resource Center aims to empower county residents and visitors to be aware of fire danger, and ways to reduce fire danger to homes and properties. The Mountain Studies Institute created an interactive map for county residents to view current and past fire mitigation efforts, as well as outlining fire mitigation risk to homes. The Center provides information about current fire danger, resources for your local fire protection district. How to prepare in the event of a wildfire and more. The Wildfire Resource Center can be found on the La Plata County website under the Emergency Management tab. The 2024 spring cleanup for the Southern Ute Indian Tribe will be April 18th and 19th this year. Tribal members, tribal departments, and tenants of the Southern Ute Indian Housing Authority are eligible for spring cleanup services. Pickups are only available by appointment, and within the boundaries of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. All items must be in one place and bagged appropriately. Tires are accepted, limited to four per household, and no semi or heavy equipment tires. If you think your trash might be hazardous waste or you can't identify it, call environmental programs for information. Large site, dangerous or hazardous waste testing, and cleanup will be done at homeowners expense on a case by case basis. Dependent on program availability. Come join the Fun at the Community Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday, March 23rd at 10:00 AM, bring your own basket for egg collection. There will be categories for kids aged zero through four, five through eight, and nine through 14. It's at Sunute Park in the fields behind the community center.
