Pedal vs. Metal | Bike Walk Bus Durango

The annual Pedal vs. Metal race pit bikes against cars to see who can run a series of downtown errands fastest. The event is presented by the the City of Durango’s multi-modal department. You can learn more by checking out GetAroundDurango.com.

Cyclists took the top three spots on the podium this year with Jason Meinnger taking the crown with a time of 15:30. Durango Police’s Ron Wysocki was the first motorized racer across the line in eighth place aboard his City of Durango issued Harley, just minutes ahead of Peter Schertz, the race’s sole unicyclist.

Crossing the finish line in twelfth place nearly ten minutes after the winner was the first automobile, driven by Cory Turnage. Unconfirmed reports suggest the cyclists were already finished with their first beer by the time the first car finally finished.

The event takes place in conjunction with Clean Commute Week, and is a very clear example of just how much better bikes can be if you’re just running around town.
