Snowdown is an annual winter festival that takes place in Durango, Colorado. Ski Softball is the original Snowdown event, which began 35 years ago between the Ski Patrol and the Ride School at Purgatory Ski Resort. The name of the resort has changed (Durango Mountain Resort), but the tradition has not. Every year the rivalry is revived as on a snowy baseball diamond, where each team attempts to prove which side is better at softball on skis (and snowboards).

Inside Durango TV’s John Trousdale went up in a small Cessna to capture aerial footage of the San Juan Mountains at sunrise on the Winter Solstice, Dec. 21, 2012. You’ll find breathtaking fly-bys of familiar peaks like Engineer Mountain and Silver Mountain from a vantage point that you’ve probably never seen before.
